Who he was: Dashrath Manjhi, widely known as the "Mountain Man", was a poor labourer from Gehlaur village near Gaya in Bihar, India. The Tragedy: His wife, Falguni Devi, was severely injured and died because she could not reach the nearest hospital in time due to a massive 55-kilometer (34 mi) detour around the Gehlaur Hills.
